Pittsburgh Architecture Movie Festival (PAM) is a platform for the exploration of how people inhabit the built environment through the lens of film and other forms of kinetic imagery. Pam Fest 2017 is an opportunity to experience immersive, critical, narrative, experimental and dialogic film and architecture worlds and start thinking about how, why and where we live today and the problems and issues we face in these environments moving forward.

This fest features Kaz Rahman who is launching his book Islamic Art in Modern Film and Architecture.

Muslim American History and Life 2017 Seminar

What does it mean to be both Muslim and American? You are invited to explore this fascinating and important question this coming summer. You will read compelling texts and conduct engaging field trips as you study the diverse facets of Muslim American identity, both as grounded in the past and as experienced in the present. As an NEH Summer Scholar, you will reflect on and discuss thirty primary source documents and two major academic monographs; visit two mosques; and make a final presentation about how you will integrate teaching about Muslim Americans into your classroom.

Film screening: To My Father by the Palestinian

Abdel Salam Shehada, A Palestinian filmmaker from Rafah, Gaza will join us to screen and discuss his very moving and personal film "To My Father". He looks at the changing role and meaning of photography in the lives of people in Gaza in his lifetime, especially since the Israeli occupation began in 1967. Shehada has been making documentary films for over thirty years and his work has been screened at film festivals around the world.

The film will be followed by questions and discussion.
Root of Peace: A Jewish Settler & Palestinian Activist in Dialogue

Two Roots activists – Antwan Saca, a Palestinian Christian and Rabbi Hanan Schlesinger, an Israeli settler – tell their personal stories and seek peace and justice for Palestinians and Israelis. Roots is a grassroots Palestinian and Israeli initiative for understanding, nonviolence and transformation. They work in both the Holy Land and the United States for education, dialogue, and action in service of peace with dignity for all.
